Fri 28 Oct 9:00pm
The evening will take the form of a lively, entertaining, and thought provoking, power point presentation that is aimed at divers, but will also be suitable for a non diving audience. The proposed format for the evening would be as follows: An Introduction to Maritime Archaeology, the Nautical Archaeology Society (NAS) and how anyone who is interested could get involved (30-40 min). Short Break. The story of work that the Malvern Archaeological Diving Unit (MADU) have been carrying out on a mystery wreck in Cardigan Bay including a short piece of video (25-30 min). Questions & Answers, General Discussion, etc. There will also be various leaflets etc. for people to take away. Presenter The talk will be given by Ian Cundy. Ian has been diving for ~18 years, and lives in Malvern, Worcestershire, where he runs the Malvern Archaeological Diving Unit. MADU is a loose group of divers that have an interest in archaeology. They take on maritime archaeological projects, and turn out to assist anyone who needs help, advice or assistance in the field of maritime archaeology. Several members of MADU are also tutors for the Nautical Archaeology Society (NAS), and in this guise they run one and two day courses on 'Foreshore and Underwater Archaeology'. Ian has been working on maritime archaeological sites for ~15 years, both in the UK, Israel, America & Croatia, and in recent years he has held various licences (both from English Heritage and Cadw for the Welsh Assembly) to work on protected sites off of Lundy Island and in Cardigan Bay. Ian is a senior NAS tutor, however (as there is so little money in archaeology!) all this is purely a hobby, and for the last 30 years, he has been running a boat building company specialising in designing and building boats for disabled people. Ian as a BSc in Mechanical Engineering, and a MA in Maritime Archaeology. |
